New Beijing Guide

That’s Beijing” Magazine has recently published the first edition of their “Insider’s Guide to Beijing 2004/05”. The staff, foreigners and Chinese, of this magazine compiled a lot of information about probably everything in China’s capital city.

The guide has about 630 pages that will cost you a meagre 50 RMB and is definitely worth a lot more. I have spent hours reading the book as it is not just a guide, but provides a lot of background information about Beijing’s history and development. The guide aims mostly at expats and features chapters on Hotels & Housing, Food, Kids, Art & Culture, Sightseeing, Nightlife, Shopping, Sports & Fitness, Health & Beauty, Transportation, Excursions, Business, Adult Education, Useful Info and also has a helpful index and maps.

It is easy to order the book online: go to www.thatsmagazines.com, click on order in the horizontal navigation menu, and choose the “Insider’s Guide to Beijing 2004-05”, click on “Details” on the bottom and fill in your personal details on the next page. (You can also order the magazine for 100 RMB/year there). Don’t forget to choose either Postal Money Order/Bank Transfer or Cash on Delivery (location restrictions may apply) and click on continue. Print out the next page with the information on how to pay for your reference. I personally favour the bank transfer or the postal money order. Just send your ayi with the information on how much to pay to whom to the post office or to the bank. Or go yourself with someone who can write and read Chinese. As the book is a huge success, I am sure you can also buy it in Beijing. Please contact Shirley Xu (shirleyxu@thatsbeijing.com) to get more information. Or try to order it at one of the local Tianjin bookstores with the ISBN number provided.
