Baiyangdian Lake Lotus Festival

Feeling too hot? Need to cool down? Then you should pay a visit to the Baiyangdian Lake Lotus Festival, in Baoding City, Hebei Province. The Lotus Festival takes place every year. The 2004 Baiyangdian Lotus Festival has unveiled in theLotus Garden and it will last until August 8th. Enjoy the great pleasure of a boat trip in a lotus pool!

Baiyangdian Lake is the largest fresh water lake as well as the largest wet land ecology system in North China Plain. It is regarded as the pearl of ecosystem and the "kiidney”"" of North China. Anxin Baiyangdian is ranked National 4A Grade Scenery. Many tourists have already spotted this lovely place. The Lotus Garden covers an area of about 2,000 mu (equivalent to 1.333 square kilometers) and provides a very special scene in Anxin Baiyangdian. In the garden you will find more than 360 varieties of lotus both of domestic as well of foreign origin. 156 of these are prized items! Some say the Baiyangdian Lake boasts the largest lotus eco-tour spot in China and also has the widest variety of lotus. The tradition of the Lotus Festival started in 1991 – for 13 years visitors have enjoyed this wonderful sight.

The 2004 Lotus Festival coincides with the project of channeling water to the Baiyangdian Lake from the mountains, which has brought the water level to 7.18 meters. The fascinating scene of the pink lotus set off by green reed in the deep and clear water makes visitors linger on without a thought of leaving. During the festival the organizers hold an image ambassador competition, fishing competition and folk custom show to add attractions to the eco-tour at Baiyangdian Lake.

Getting there

1. Take the 6 am bus to Anxin at Tianjin West Bus Station (ticket price RMB 29). Thejourney takes about 3 hours. To get back to Tianjin you can take the 10:30 am bus leaving from Anxin Station.

2. There are six islands with beautiful scenery and various activities in Baiyangdian. The admittance fee for each island is about RMB 40-50.

3. A great way to enjoy the scenery and have a great view is by boat. You can hire them at Baiyangdian Lake, the rental fee is RMB 30/hour.

4. You can stay in cosy village houses for about RMB 50/night.
