Tianjin Architecture

Tianjin's architecture is particularly unique. With a combination of traditional Chinese cultural architecture and the rich mixture of architectural culture from other parts of the world, it is known as the "World Museum of Architecture". Even as early as the 19th Century, Tianjin's national industries were at an advanced level. Tianjin has simple social customs and unique folk cultures. The `Ancient Culture Street' is at the junction of three rivers and is the centre of ancient Tianjin. With a Mazu Temple at its center, it is the cradle of Tianjin's riverside culture. Even the Tianjin section of the Great Wall, is testament to its earlier resident's customs. This section, running through Jixian County to the north of Tianjin, relects primitive simplicity and an old-world charm.

Western-style buildings in Tianjin which have been honoured "World Architecture Fain" have an important position in the old architectures in Tianjin. Architecture specialists and ordinary peoples took pleasuer in it due to the numerous designs, beautiful facades and large exterior. These `architectural gems' are Tianjin's precious cultural heritage which incorporate local Chinese styles with Western designs.

Liu Guanxiong's residence is a two-story western building with a brick and wood structure and covers an area of 3325 square meters. The main building has three stories with dry walls built with red bricks. The roof is built with big tiles and sticking eaves and the windows are Philippine double-groove windows. The interior boasts hardwood floors. The entire buidling is a sight to behold.

Sun Chuanfang's residence is a two-story Western-style villa, which consists of a main building and a side building. Around the main building there is a enclosed winding veranda. There is a patio on the second floor with a row of a row of columns. In the front yard, there is a decorative pavilion with eight round pills supporting a helmet-shaped roof, on which was installed a flag pole. What a unique house! This villa was completed in 1922, taking up an area of 3700 square meters. The total construction area is 3500 square meters.

The residence of Zhang Fuyun is a two-story building with different architertural designs. The yard is spacious and well-kept. The reception hall on the first floor is composed of four groups of double-columns and double-beams. The corridor on the second floor has of Romanesque columned walls, the layout of which is well-proportioned and the ornaments, exquisite.

The building was designed by the former Leli Engineering Department and covers an area of 6.457 meters and the building area is 1238.27 square meters. It was built in 1935,and in 1946, as Zhang Fuyuan and his wife Li Guoqin went to Hong Kong, the building was turned over to Lin Honglai to manage. (2 Changde Road)
